Ibadan circular road: Residents Beg Makinde Over Planned 500m Extension

Residents of over 1,000 communities on the Ibadan Circular Road, on Tuesday, appealed to Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State governor on the plan to extend the corridor pillar to 500 metres.

The affected local governments with over 10,000 houses and commercial buildings include Oluyole, Egbeda, Ona-Ara, Lagelu, Akinyele and Ido, respectively.

The victims, in a statement jointly signed by the ICRCR Coordinator, Niyi Fasoye, and its Secretary, Isiaq Jimoh, respectively, in Ibadan, the state capital, said the construction of the road has led to the untimely death of many affected landlords and landladies.

“We want to appeal to the Governor Makinde-led administration not to extend the Circular Road beyond 150 metres.

“We know our governor has listening ears. We want him to assist us. We have no other place we can go. We laboured so hard before we put these buildings in place.

“Many of us have already been affected by the existing arrangement. We are now appealing to the state government not to extend the Circular Road beyond the 150 metres.

“Few of the affected communities in the Oluyole Local Government include Egbeda Tuber, Tech u, and Ajota; in the Lagelu LG are Ejioku, Eni Osa, Arulogun, Abaoba, Kotilo, Oyagaga, Ire-Akari, Lala, Obanijesu and Aba Oyo; Egbeda LG includes Ayede and Erunmu; Ona-Ara LG are Ajia, Arowojeka, Badeku, Akamo, Àba-Otun, Mesio, Odeyale, Ifesowapo, Ifetola, Omolere and Oloruntola.

“Some others in the Akinyele LG include Aroro Kole, Molarere, Odo-Oba, Ibitunde, Tolatose, Olufana, Ile Ola, Eyin Olu, Oke and Salako; while in Ido LG include Omi-Adio, Wire & Cable, Fenwa, Elenusonso, Itesiwaju, Lariken, Inalende, Idi-Igbaro, Ogo-Oluwa, Bako, Jamoje, Lade, Olounde, Aganni, Shiba, Alayo, Isale-Alah, Akogi and Agbeni.

“Our prayer is that since all of us did not encroach or buy government acquisition land, the state government should please maintain the properly acquired 150metres. The government should please stop installing pillars on the boundaries of 500 metres to fault us.

“The government should please stop the marking of houses across the local government and allow us to process titles of our properties in the Ministry of Lands,” the statement stated.

The project was not executed by the late former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, who took over from Ladoja.

It was eventually executed by the administration of late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who started the construction of the road when he was in office between 2011 and 2019.
